The short version
AB-620 is Microsoft’s associate-level exam for people who build and extend custom agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio. It goes well past dragging topics onto a canvas: you are expected to connect agents to tools, knowledge, other agents, and Azure services, and then test and ship them. Passing it earns the Microsoft Certified: AI Agent Builder Associate credential, which Microsoft lists at intermediate level.
What the exam is
The exam title on Microsoft Learn is Designing and Building Integrated AI Agent Solutions in Copilot Studio. Microsoft describes the person who takes it as a professional developer or advanced builder who builds, extends, and integrates custom agents for enterprise-grade solutions. Think of an application developer, a consultant, or a partner company building agents for customers.
That profile explains the content. Many questions are about choosing between neighboring features: an agent flow or a Power Automate cloud flow, a child agent or a connected agent, a Power Platform connector or a custom connector. Others test the details of how a setting behaves, such as what a data policy blocks or which evaluation method checks which tool an agent used. This is closer to a developer exam than to a product tour.
Who it is for
Microsoft says candidates should be familiar with Power Fx, Microsoft Dataverse, Power Platform environments and components, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft Foundry, and adaptive cards. You also need intermediate knowledge of generative AI concepts, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol, plus experience with prompt engineering and REST APIs. On top of that, you should already have configured agents in Copilot Studio with knowledge sources, instructions, tools, and topics. The prerequisites page turns this into a self-check list.

The three domains and their weightings
The study guide groups the skills into three domains. Each one contains several skill areas.
| Domain | Weighting |
|---|---|
| Plan and configure agent solutions | 30-35% |
| Integrate and extend agents in Copilot Studio | 40-45% |
| Test and manage agents | 20-25% |
Plan and configure agent solutions
Three skill areas: planning an agent solution (integration, identity, channels, responsible AI, security and governance, reusable components, internal versus external audiences), creating and monitoring agent flows, and configuring topics. Topics include generative answers nodes, adaptive cards, custom prompts, and variables.
Integrate and extend agents in Copilot Studio
The biggest domain. It covers enterprise knowledge sources (Copilot connectors, Power Platform connectors, Azure AI Search), tools (computer use, MCP tools, custom connectors, REST APIs), multi-agent collaboration (Foundry agents, existing agents, Fabric data agents, A2A), and Azure integration such as Application Insights.
Test and manage agents
Two skill areas: evaluating agent performance with test sets and evaluation methods, and application lifecycle management with solutions, environment variables, and Power Platform pipelines.
About the study guide
