The short version
AB-620 is hard for people who know Copilot Studio as a maker but have not built with tools, other agents, and lifecycle management. It is manageable for developers who already ship agents. Microsoft labels it intermediate, and its profile expects a developer or advanced builder. Nobody can promise you a result, but you can measure your readiness.
What makes it demanding
It is wide. The exam spans nine skill areas, from identity strategy and agent flows to MCP, Foundry, Fabric, A2A, evaluation, and pipelines. Microsoft’s profile also expects knowledge of Power Fx, Dataverse, Power Platform environments, adaptive cards, generative AI concepts, and REST APIs. No single week of study covers all that.
It tests choices. Many questions describe a requirement and ask which feature fits. Two answers often look reasonable until one detail rules one out: who signs in, where the agent is deployed, which environment, which kind of connection.
It tests settings. Some questions depend on how a feature actually behaves, for example what a data policy blocks or which flow trigger makes a flow callable by an agent. You only know those by building.
The product keeps moving. Microsoft notes that some features on the exam are in preview if they are commonly used. Documentation changes, so recheck the study guide near your exam date.
Who finds it easier
- Developers who already build agents in Copilot Studio and have connected tools, flows, and knowledge.
- Power Platform makers who work with solutions, environments, and pipelines as part of their job.
- People who have used Azure AI Search, Application Insights, or Foundry alongside their agents.
Who finds it harder
- Makers who build topics only and have not used MCP, custom connectors, or REST tools.
- Candidates without ALM habits. Managed and unmanaged solutions, environment variables, and pipelines are easy to read about and hard to reason about without having used them.
- Anyone who has only read about multi-agent patterns. The differences between child and connected agents show up in scenario questions.
Common reasons people fail
These come from how the exam is built, not from Microsoft data. Microsoft publishes no pass rate.
- Studying the maker portal and skipping the developer topics such as MCP, A2A, and Foundry.
- Skipping the testing and lifecycle domain because it feels like an add-on. It carries 20-25%.
- Memorizing feature names without knowing the conditions under which they apply.
- Not reading to the end of a long scenario, where the deciding constraint often sits.
- Running out of time by spending too long on early questions. You have 120 minutes, and there is no penalty for guessing.
How to judge your readiness
Use evidence, not feelings.
- Can you explain each of the nine skill areas aloud, without notes, and say what you would build for each?
- Have you built at least one working example of every item in the study guide?
- Do you score consistently above your target on timed practice sets, with different question sets, over more than one sitting?
- When you miss a question, can you say why the correct answer is right and why the closest wrong answer fails?
If the answer to most of these is yes, booking is reasonable. If not, add a week, fix the weakest area, and test again. Microsoft allows a retake after 24 hours, but a planned second attempt is a worse strategy than one more week of building.

Frequently asked questions
What is the AB-620 pass rate?
Microsoft does not publish one.
Is AB-620 harder than a fundamentals exam?
Yes. Microsoft lists fundamentals exams at 45 minutes and AB-620 at 120 minutes, and AB-620 is aimed at developers and advanced builders.
Can I pass without coding experience?
The profile mentions Power Fx, REST APIs, and integration patterns, so some technical comfort is expected.
