AB-620 Study Plan: 4-Week and 8-Week

The short version

Pick the 4-week plan if you already build agents in Copilot Studio most weeks. Pick the 8-week plan if you know the maker experience but have not yet used MCP, Foundry, pipelines, or evaluation. Both plans assume you build things yourself, because the exam is written for developers and advanced builders. Hours are estimates and vary a lot with your background.

Before you start

  1. Open the skills outline in the AB-620 study guide and print or copy it. Check the version before you begin.
  2. Set up an environment where you can create agents and solutions, so you can try every feature you read about. Licensing differs between organizations, so confirm what yours allows.
  3. Take the first practice set cold. It shows which skill areas are weak and keeps you from over-studying what you already know. Our how to study for IT certification exams guide covers the method.

The three domains carry 30-35%, 40-45%, and 20-25%. The middle domain is the biggest, so it gets the most weeks.

The 4-week plan (about 8 to 10 hours per week)

Week 1: Plan and configure, part 1. Cover planning (identity, channels, data policies, responsible AI, reusable components) and agent flows. Build one agent flow that takes an input, calls a connector, handles an error, and returns an output to the agent. Add a human-in-the-loop step. Read how to monitor a flow run.

Week 2: Topics and knowledge. Cover topics (variables, adaptive cards, generative answers node, custom prompts, HTTP requests) and enterprise knowledge sources (Copilot connectors, Power Platform connectors, Azure AI Search). Build a topic that passes a variable to another topic and one that sends an adaptive card.

Week 3: Tools, agents, and Azure. Cover MCP tools, custom connectors, REST APIs, computer use, child and connected agents, Foundry and Fabric agents, A2A, and Application Insights. Connect one MCP server, one connected agent, and send telemetry to Application Insights.

Week 4: Test, manage, and rehearse. Cover evaluation (test sets and methods) and lifecycle management (solutions, environment variables, pipelines). Create a test set with two methods and move an agent through a managed solution. Spend the second half of the week on timed practice sets and fixing weak areas.

The 8-week plan (about 4 to 6 hours per week)

  • Week 1: Read the study guide fully, then take a cold practice set. Plan your hours around the results.
  • Week 2: Planning an agent solution: identity strategy, channels, security and governance, responsible AI, internal versus external audiences.
  • Week 3: Agent flows: triggers, parameters, connectors, human-in-the-loop, error handling, monitoring.
  • Week 4: Topics: variables, response formatting, adaptive cards, generative answers, custom prompts, HTTP requests.
  • Week 5: Knowledge sources and tools: Copilot connectors, Power Platform connectors, Azure AI Search, MCP, custom connectors, REST APIs, computer use.
  • Week 6: Multi-agent solutions and Azure: child versus connected agents, Foundry, Fabric, A2A, Application Insights, the Foundry model catalog for custom prompts.
  • Week 7: Evaluation and lifecycle management. Then a practice set on the areas you rebuilt in weeks 2 to 6.
  • Week 8: Timed practice sets, review of every miss, and light revision.

How to use practice exams in the plan

Use practice sets as a measuring tool, not as the way you learn. After each set, list every question you missed and write down the concept, not the answer. Then fix the concept in the product: build it, break it, read the documentation page. Our five AB-620 practice tests are arranged to build up from single concepts to full-length scenarios, so take them in order and keep the last one for the end. Our sets use 80 percent as the pass mark, 85 percent for the final one, because Microsoft’s 700 is a scaled score and not a percentage. Clearing them is a useful signal, not a promise.

The last 3 days

  • Three days out: Take the full-length set under timed conditions. Review every miss, including lucky guesses.
  • Two days out: Revisit your weakest skill area only. Reread the skills list and tick what you could explain without notes.
  • The day before: Stop heavy studying. Check your booking, ID, and system test if you test online. Our exam day guide has a checklist.

Next step

Read domains explained to match each week to what the exam asks, then check your readiness with the AB-620 practice tests.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I study for AB-620?

Most people with regular Copilot Studio experience fit 30 to 40 hours into four weeks. Without that experience, expect longer, and expect to build things yourself.

Can I study only with practice questions?

No. Practice questions find gaps. Hands-on building and Microsoft’s documentation close them.
