The short version
The Agentforce Specialist certification does not last forever. Salesforce asks you to complete a maintenance module on Trailhead once a year, and if you miss the due date the certification expires. Retakes cost a fee, and Salesforce prints no waiting period or attempt limit on the pages we checked on October 22, 2026, so confirm the current rule when you book.
Maintenance: the yearly task
Passing the exam is the start of the credential, not the end. According to the Salesforce exam guide, you must complete the Agentforce Specialist maintenance module on Trailhead once a year. Salesforce ties these modules to its release cycle, so each one is written for a specific release. A module for the Summer ’26 release exists, and it is the only badge that module asks for.
The module is short in spirit: it reviews what changed in the platform since the last cycle. The Summer ’26 version, for example, covers updates to Agentforce Builder and Agent Script, a new spreadsheet-style workspace called Agentforce Grid, and new Agentforce Observability metrics. It does not re-test you on the whole exam. It is aimed at people who already hold the certification, although anyone can earn the badge.
Two practical points follow from how Salesforce describes the process:
- The due date comes from a schedule, not from your exam date. Salesforce publishes a Certification Maintenance Schedule and shows each certification’s status on your Trailblazer Profile. Look at the profile after you pass so you know your first deadline.
- Reminder emails exist, but Salesforce says not to rely on them alone. They go to the address on your profile. Check that the address is current and look in your spam folder.
Salesforce does not say, on the pages we read, how many modules a certification needs per year beyond the “once a year” in the exam guide, and it does not state a grace period. Treat the due date as firm.
What happens if you miss the due date
Salesforce says that when you miss a due date, every certification maintained by that badge expires. If you hold several credentials that share a badge, they lapse together, and re-earning one does not bring back the others.
To get an expired certification back, Salesforce’s standard route is to pass the full proctored exam again. There is one softer option: if the certification expired recently, you can open a support case and ask for a reinstatement review. Salesforce says approval is not assured and each request is judged case by case. If the certification expired more than one cycle ago, the standard path is to retake the exam.
So the cost of forgetting is real. A short module at the right time replaces a 105-minute proctored exam plus the exam fee. Put the due date in your calendar a few weeks early.
Retakes
Salesforce lists a retake fee for this exam. It does not list a waiting period between attempts or a maximum number of attempts on the exam guide or the reschedule page we checked. Some third-party blogs quote a figure, but those are not Salesforce statements, so we do not repeat them.
What we can say from Salesforce’s own pages:
- The reschedule policy applies to bookings, not to failed attempts: change or cancel at least 48 hours ahead at a testing center, or 24 hours ahead for online proctoring.
- A no-show is charged the full exam fee.
- An exam cannot be rescheduled beyond one year from the original purchase date.
If you fail, do not rebook in the first hour out of frustration. Look at your score report, find the weakest section, and spend a week or two on it. The study plan shows how to weight your time by section, and the domains explained page lists the traps in each one.
When the exam changes
The exam guide is aligned to the Spring ’26 release and prints no revision date. Salesforce updates its outlines with releases, and the maintenance modules already mention newer features than the guide lists. Two consequences:
- If you have not passed yet, check the exam guide on the day you book. Compare its section list and weightings with the table on the overview page.
- If you have passed, the yearly module is how Salesforce keeps credential holders current. You do not retake the exam just because the outline changed.
Salesforce does not publish a retirement date for this exam on the pages we checked.
A timeline example
This is an illustration, not a Salesforce schedule. Suppose you pass in the spring. You check your Trailblazer Profile and see the next maintenance due date in the following cycle. Eight weeks before it, a reminder lands in your inbox. You open the module, read the release changes, and earn the badge. The certification stays active. If you skip it and the date passes, the certification expires, and you either ask for reinstatement or sit the full exam again.

Frequently asked questions
Do I pay to maintain the certification?
The pages we read do not mention a maintenance fee, and the module is a Trailhead badge. Check the current Salesforce page before relying on that.
Is there a fixed waiting time after a failed attempt?
Salesforce does not print one on the pages we checked. Confirm at booking.
Can I get an expired certification back without the exam?
Possibly, through a reinstatement request if it expired recently, but Salesforce does not promise approval.
