DP-750 Exam Format, Scoring and Retakes

The short version

You need a scaled score of 700 or more on a scale of 1 to 1,000 to pass DP-750. Microsoft does not publish the number of questions per exam, and its DP-750 certification page gives the time as 120 minutes. This page separates what Microsoft states for all role-based exams from what it states for DP-750.

Passing score and scaled scoring

Technical exams are scored from 1 to 1,000, and 700 or greater passes. Microsoft stresses that a scaled score may not equal 70% of the points. The passing standard reflects the skills needed to show competence and the difficulty of the questions you received. A harder set of questions needs fewer points to pass, and an easier set needs more. That is why a fixed “you need 70% correct” figure is misleading.

Other scoring rules from Microsoft:

  • Multi-part questions give one point for each correct component, so you can earn partial credit.
  • There is no penalty for guessing. A wrong answer simply earns nothing, so answer everything.
  • Some questions may be unscored data-gathering items. You cannot tell which, so treat each as real.
  • Your score report shows an overall score, pass or fail, and a bar chart per skill area. It does not show which questions you missed.

Time and number of questions

Microsoft’s DP-750 certification page states that you have 120 minutes to complete the assessment. Microsoft’s general exam-duration page also lists a seat time that is 20 minutes longer, which includes instructions and the candidate agreement.

The number of questions is not published for DP-750. Microsoft says that most exams contain 40 to 60 questions, but that the count can vary. Treat that as a general range, not a promise.

Question styles

Microsoft does not announce the question types for a specific exam. Its exam sandbox and its duration page show the styles that can appear on role-based exams: multiple choice, drag and drop, hot area, build list, case studies, review screens, and labs. Expect scenario wording, because the skills measured are written around actions such as choosing, configuring, and troubleshooting. Microsoft also says that most questions cover generally available features, though commonly used preview features may appear.

Try Microsoft’s exam sandbox once before test day. It lets you practice the interface, marking for review, and navigation at no cost.

Learn access, breaks and delivery

  • Microsoft Learn during the exam. On associate and expert exams you can open Microsoft Learn in a split screen. It covers the learn.microsoft.com domain except Q&A, practice assessments, and your profile. The timer keeps running and no extra time is added, so use it to look up a detail, not to read.
  • Breaks. You can take unscheduled breaks. Five minutes are built into the exam time, but the clock keeps running during a break, and you cannot return to questions you already saw before the break.
  • Delivery. Microsoft exams are proctored and delivered through Pearson VUE, whose OnVUE online proctoring Microsoft mentions on its exam pages. Check the booking page for the delivery options available to you.

Languages

Microsoft says that localized versions are updated about eight weeks after the English version. If the exam is not available in your language, you can request an additional 30 minutes. Microsoft’s DP-750 certification page lists 10 languages: English, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Korean, German, French, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish.

Retakes and renewal

If you do not pass, wait 24 hours before the second attempt. After that, there is a 14-day wait between attempts, up to five attempts in 12 months. You cannot retake an exam you have passed unless your certification has expired, and each retake is paid for where a fee applies. A waiver exists only for internet or equipment failures documented with a testing-provider case number.

Associate certifications expire annually. Renewal is free: you pass an open-book, unproctored online assessment on Microsoft Learn at any time during the six-month window before expiry, and the certification then extends by one year.

What this means for your preparation

Since the pass mark is scaled, do not convert practice scores into a prediction. Use practice exams to find weak domains and to rehearse the pacing. The study plan shows where to place them.

Next step

Continue with the study plan to turn this into a schedule. To rehearse time pressure, the DP-750 practice tests include full-length sets.
