DP-600 Exam Guide: Fabric Analytics Engineer

The short version

DP-600 is Microsoft’s associate-level exam for people who build analytics in Microsoft Fabric: lakehouses, warehouses, semantic models, and the SQL, KQL, and DAX queries on top of them. You get 100 minutes, and you need a scaled score of 700 to pass. This guide follows the study guide that Microsoft lists as “Skills measured as of October 19, 2026”, which applies to the English exam from that date.

What the exam is

The full name is Exam DP-600: Implementing Analytics Solutions Using Microsoft Fabric. Passing it earns what Microsoft calls the Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate credential, rated intermediate on Microsoft’s certification page. It is the only exam required for that credential on the pages we checked.

This is not a theory exam. Questions hand you a situation, such as a team that needs a place to store data, a report that is slow, or a user who sees too much, and ask you to choose the design, the setting, or the query. Microsoft says some exams include interactive components, so expect more than plain multiple choice.

Microsoft also lets you open Microsoft Learn during role-based exams like this one. That helps with syntax and settings, but the clock keeps running while you read, so it is a safety net and not a plan.

Who it is for

Microsoft describes the candidate as someone with subject matter expertise in designing, creating, and managing analytical assets, such as semantic models, warehouses, or lakehouses. The listed responsibilities are:

  • Preparing and enriching data for analysis
  • Securing and maintaining analytics assets
  • Implementing and managing semantic models

You also work with stakeholders, architects, analysts, engineers, and administrators, and you should be able to query data with SQL, KQL, and DAX. In practice that fits Power BI developers moving into Fabric, BI and warehouse developers, and data engineers who want the analytics side.

The three domains

Microsoft publishes weighting ranges for each skill area:

DomainWeighting
Maintain a data analytics solution25-30%
Prepare data45-50%
Implement and manage semantic models25-30%

Prepare data is almost half of the exam. It covers getting data into Fabric, transforming it, and querying it with the visual query editor, SQL, KQL, and DAX. Maintain a data analytics solution is about security, governance, version control, and deployment pipelines. Implement and manage semantic models covers storage modes, relationships, DAX calculations, and performance, including Direct Lake. The domains explained page goes through each one.

A date to know

Microsoft states that the English version of the exam is updated on October 19, 2026, and that other languages follow roughly eight weeks later. Study material written for an earlier outline may not match. Always check the date on the study guide you use. The vendor’s own pages are the authority: the DP-600 exam page and its study guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is there more than one exam for the Fabric Analytics Engineer credential?

On the Microsoft page we checked, DP-600 is the only exam listed for it.

Do I have to renew the credential?

Microsoft says associate credentials expire unless renewed. Renewal is free through an online assessment on Microsoft Learn. See the format page for the details.

Do I need to know SQL, KQL, and DAX?

Microsoft says you should be able to query and analyze data with all three. You do not need to be an expert, but you should be able to read and complete queries in each language.
