About these questions
These five questions are original. We wrote them to match the style of the AB-731 skills measured, with the skill areas in rough proportion to their weight. They are not real exam questions, and the real exam will word things differently.
How to use these
Try each question without looking at your notes, and pick an answer before you open the explanation. Then read the explanation even when you were right, because the reason the closest wrong option fails is where the learning is. Note any area where you slipped and revisit it on the domains explained page.
Question 1 (Identify the foundational concepts of generative AI)
A finance director is budgeting two projects: Microsoft 365 Copilot for 400 office staff, and a customer-facing assistant that the IT team will build on Microsoft Foundry using retrieval-augmented generation. She asks how the main cost drivers differ. Which description is correct?
- A. Both are billed mainly for storage, because model usage is included at no extra charge
- B. Copilot costs scale with the number of licensed users, and the Foundry application’s costs scale with usage such as tokens, compute, storage, and data transfer
- C. Copilot is billed per token consumed, and the Foundry application needs a license for each customer who reaches it
- D. Both costs depend mainly on headcount, because each one uses a per-user license
Show the answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Microsoft 365 Copilot is a ready-to-use product with a per-user license, so cost follows the number of licensed people. A custom application on Microsoft Foundry is consumption based: tokens in and out, compute, other AI services, storage, and data transfer all count. Option D is the closest wrong option because it is true for Copilot only, and it would leave the finance director blind to a bill that grows with customer traffic. Options A and C reverse or ignore the real cost drivers.
Question 2 (Identify benefits and capabilities of generative AI solutions)
A bank’s internal assistant answers staff questions by retrieving passages from documents that customers upload with their applications. The security lead worries that a customer could hide instructions inside a document and that the model would follow them. What should the team do?
- A. Treat retrieved passages as untrusted input and harden the system message and the application logic
- B. Treat the passages as trusted, because they are stored in the bank’s own index
- C. Fine-tune the model on past customer documents so it no longer needs to retrieve them
- D. Switch the connection to the index from Microsoft Entra ID to shared API keys
Show the answer and explanation
Correct answer: A. Text that comes back from retrieval is content written by outsiders, so the application should treat it as untrusted input and limit what instructions inside it can do. Option B is the closest wrong option. Where a document is stored says nothing about who wrote it, so being in the bank’s own index does not make its content safe. Fine-tuning on customer documents does not remove the injection risk and would add new data-handling problems. Moving from Entra ID to shared keys weakens access control rather than strengthening it.
Question 3 (Identify benefits and capabilities of Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Copilot)
The security operations manager at a hospital group wants AI help to summarize security incidents, investigate user accounts that may be compromised, and summarize data loss prevention alerts. Which Copilot offering is designed for this work?
- A. Microsoft 365 Copilot
- B. Microsoft Copilot Studio
- C. Microsoft Security Copilot
- D. Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat
Show the answer and explanation
Correct answer: C. Microsoft Security Copilot is aimed at security professionals and covers tasks such as incident response, threat hunting, and posture management, working with Microsoft security and identity products. Microsoft 365 Copilot is the closest wrong option. It helps people with everyday productivity work in apps like Word, Outlook, and Teams, not with security investigations. Copilot Chat is also a productivity assistant. Copilot Studio is used to build agents, not to run incident investigations.
Question 4 (Identify benefits and capabilities of Foundry Tools)
A bank is evaluating Content Understanding in Foundry Tools and wants to use it only for scenarios that Microsoft documents as Content Understanding use cases. Which two scenarios should the project team include? Choose two.
- A. Extracting and validating fields from loan applications and contracts
- B. Translating a live phone call between two languages
- C. Matching a customer’s face to the photo on an identity document
- D. Producing insights from recorded customer support calls
- E. Blocking harmful prompts sent to a customer chatbot
Show the answer and explanation
Correct answers: A and D. Content Understanding turns unstructured content, such as documents and recordings, into structured data. Document processing and post-call analytics are documented uses. Live translation of a call belongs to speech services, and it is the closest wrong option because a phone call is involved, but the task is translation of live speech, not analysis of a recording. Matching a face to a photo belongs to face and identity services, and blocking harmful prompts is a content safety job.
Question 5 (Plan for AI adoption across the organization)
A news publisher expects a steady, high volume of Azure Translator text translation every month. The finance team wants a predictable total cost and a lower rate than standard pay-as-you-go pricing for this feature. Which pricing option should you recommend?
- A. The free tier of the Translator resource
- B. Standard pay-as-you-go pricing billed per use
- C. A provisioned throughput reservation for the workload
- D. Commitment tier pricing for the Translator resource
Show the answer and explanation
Correct answer: D. Foundry Tools offers commitment tier pricing for certain features, including text translation. You commit to a level of use for a fixed fee at a discounted rate compared with standard pricing, which gives the predictability finance wants. Standard pay-as-you-go is the closest wrong option. It suits uneven or unknown volume, but it carries no discount for steady use. The free tier is meant for trying a service, and provisioned throughput applies to model deployments rather than this feature.
