Are you ready for AB-731, or will the exam find the gaps for you? The Microsoft AI Transformation Leader exam does not ask you to write code. It asks whether you can judge business value, pick the right Microsoft AI app or service, and plan a responsible, well-governed rollout. That is harder to self-assess than it sounds, and this practice set is built to answer the question before you book.

You get five practice tests with 100 questions each: 500 questions in total, written against the AB-731 study guide with skills measured as of July 22, 2026. Every question maps to one of the six skill areas in that guide, in the same weighting in every test, so your per-domain scores add up to a clear picture.

The July 2026 refresh matters. Microsoft renamed Azure AI services to Foundry Tools, Azure AI Foundry to Microsoft Foundry and Azure AI Vision to Azure Vision in Foundry Tools, and the subscription objective now asks about pay-as-you-go and commitment tiers instead of prepaid plans. Practice material written for the earlier AB-731 outline uses the old names and the old pricing objective, and trains you for a version of the exam you will not sit.

The five tests build up step by step:

  • Test 1, Groundwork: one concept per question, a baseline across all areas.
  • Test 2, In Practice: short business scenarios and look-alike services.
  • Test 3, Trade-offs: two plausible answers, one deciding constraint.
  • Test 4, Under the Hood: licensing, billing, governance and extensibility mechanics.
  • Test 5, Exam Day: long case questions under the tightest clock.

Every answer option has its own feedback, so you learn why a wrong choice is wrong and what it actually is. Each question ends with an overall explanation and a link to the Microsoft Learn page it is based on.

After each attempt PrepKiwi shows your score per skill area. The pass mark is 80% for tests 1 to 4 and 85% for test 5, deliberately above what the real AB-731 exam requires, so that a pass here gives you margin on exam day.

What this practice set is not: it is not a video course and it contains no real exam questions. It tests and explains. Use it next to the free Microsoft Learn learning paths for AB-731, not instead of them.

Groundwork: Core Generative AI and Copilot Concepts

100 questions · 170 minutes · pass mark 80%

Start here, ideally before you study. This first test gives you a clean baseline across every skill area in the AB-731 study guide (skills measured as of July 22, 2026): generative AI foundations, prompt engineering and grounding, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Chat, Foundry Tools, responsible AI, and adoption and licensing. Questions are short and test one concept at a time. 100 questions, 170 minutes, pass mark 80%. The pass mark is deliberately higher than what the real exam asks of you: practising at home is easier than sitting a proctored exam, so we set the bar where a pass here means real margin on exam day. Every answer option has its own feedback, and each question ends with an explanation and a link to Microsoft Learn. Use the domain report at the end to see where to focus next.

In Practice: Business Scenarios for Copilot and Foundry

100 questions · 170 minutes · pass mark 80%

Test 2 moves from definitions to short business scenarios. You decide which Microsoft AI app or service fits a situation, and you learn to separate neighbours that are easy to mix up: Microsoft 365 Copilot versus Copilot Chat, Copilot Studio versus Agent Builder, Azure AI Search versus a prebuilt Foundry Tool, a champion versus an adoption lead. The six skill areas are weighted exactly as in the other tests, so your domain scores are comparable across attempts. 100 questions, 170 minutes, pass mark 80%. Read the explanation for every question, including the ones you got right: the feedback on each wrong option is where most of the learning happens.

Trade-offs: When Two Answers Look Right

100 questions · 170 minutes · pass mark 80%

In test 3 two answers usually look defensible, and one constraint decides: data that changes daily, a need for citations, a fixed budget, data that must stay in a region, no developers on staff, or a rollout that has to start small. This is the level at which the AB-731 exam separates candidates who know the terms from candidates who can advise a business. Stems are longer and ask you to weigh options rather than recall a definition. 100 questions, 170 minutes, pass mark 80%. If your score drops compared with test 2, that is expected; use the domain report to find the skill area that costs you the most points.

Under the Hood: Licensing, Pricing and Governance Mechanics

100 questions · 140 minutes · pass mark 80%

Test 4 looks at the mechanics a transformation leader has to get right: how Copilot licences, pay-as-you-go billing and prepaid capacity work, how Foundry Tools are billed with pay-as-you-go and commitment tiers, what has to be in place before a rollout, which governance step comes first, and which control, report or extensibility option solves a given need. Questions are compact but precise, and small wording differences matter. 100 questions, 140 minutes, pass mark 80%. The clock is tighter than in the first three tests, so you start practising under time pressure while the questions stay short.

Exam Day: Full-Length Case Simulation

100 questions · 155 minutes · pass mark 85%

The final test is your readiness check. Each question is a company case with several constraints at once, often crossing skill areas: a business goal, a data or compliance requirement, a budget limit and an adoption concern in one stem. Take it in one uninterrupted sitting, without notes. 100 questions, 155 minutes, pass mark 85%, with the least thinking time per question of the whole set. The bar is higher than in the earlier tests on purpose: the real AB-731 exam is proctored and has its own pressure, so a score of 85% here gives you the margin you want before you book. Below that, return to your weakest domain and retake the test after a few days.

Who is this for

This practice set is for business leaders, managers and transformation leads who are preparing for Microsoft exam AB-731 and want to know whether they are ready. It also suits strategy and innovation managers, project and program managers, consultants and pre-sales staff who advise on Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Foundry, and IT professionals moving from a technical role into an advisory or AI governance role. Students and career switchers who want a recognised, business-level AI certification will find a structured way to check their knowledge. AB-731 is a new exam and does not replace a retired exam, but it is easily confused with its siblings: AB-730 targets business users working with Copilot day to day, and AI-900/AI-901 test technical AI fundamentals. This practice set follows the AB-731 study guide only. It is a question bank with detailed explanations: it tells you where you stand and why an answer is right or wrong. It does not replace a course, and it contains no real exam questions.

Requirements

  • No coding or data science background is needed. AB-731 is a business-level exam, and every question is written for decision makers.
  • Everyday familiarity with Microsoft 365 apps such as Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel helps, because many scenarios take place inside them.
  • These are practice exams, not a video course. Use them next to the free Microsoft Learn paths for AB-731 and the official practice assessment, not instead.
