AZ-802 Administering Windows Server: 500 Practice Questions
AD DS, Hyper-V, Azure Arc, storage and security for Windows Server: 500 questions with per-answer explanations
Are you ready for AZ-802, or do you just feel ready? This practice set gives you a clear answer before you book the exam.
You get 500 original questions in five practice tests of 100 questions each, written against the AZ-802 skills outline that Microsoft published in June 2026. Every question maps to one of the seven official domains, from deploying and managing AD DS to monitoring and troubleshooting Windows Server, in the same proportions as the real exam.
AZ-802 is the single exam that replaces AZ-800 and AZ-801, which retired on September 30, 2026. The scope has changed. Hybrid identity with Entra Connect, Windows containers, failover clustering, Azure Backup and Site Recovery, IPAM and remote access, and the whole server migration domain are gone. AD DS troubleshooting, Kerberos and secure channel issues, RODC account security, Azure Arc device configuration and Windows Server 2025 features such as OSConfig carry more weight. Practice material written for AZ-800 or AZ-801 prepares you partly for an exam you will no longer sit.
The five AZ-802 tests build up in difficulty:
– Test 1, Groundwork: one concept per question, a baseline across all domains.
- Test 2, In Practice: short scenarios that separate features that are easy to confuse.
- Test 3, Trade-offs: two answers look right and one constraint decides.
- Test 4, Under the Hood: cmdlets, parameters, defaults, limits and the order of steps.
- Test 5, Exam Day: long multi-constraint scenarios under the tightest time pressure.
Every answer option has its own feedback, so you learn why a wrong option is wrong and what it actually does. Each question also has an overall explanation that ends with a link to the Microsoft Learn page behind the correct answer, so you can check the source yourself.
After each attempt PrepKiwi shows your score per domain, so you know where to revise. The pass mark is 80% for tests 1 to 4 and 85% for test 5, higher than the real exam, because practising at home is easier than sitting a proctored exam.
What this practice set is not: it is not a video course, a lab environment or a copy of real exam questions. It is an AZ-802 question bank that tests your knowledge and explains the answers. Use it alongside Microsoft Learn and hands-on practice.
Groundwork: Core Windows Server Admin Concepts
100 questions · 165 minutes · pass mark 80%
Start here. This first test checks the building blocks of AZ-802 one concept at a time: domain controllers and RODCs, FSMO roles, sites and trusts, Group Policy, Windows Admin Center and Azure Arc, Hyper-V and Azure VMs, DNS and DHCP, Azure Files and File Sync, Windows Server storage, OS and AD DS security, and monitoring and troubleshooting. The questions are short and direct, so you can see quickly which of the seven exam domains you already know and which need work. You get 100 questions in 165 minutes, including 12 "choose two" questions. The pass mark is 80%, deliberately higher than the real exam's scaled 700, because practising at home is easier than sitting a proctored exam. Take it cold as a baseline, then read the explanation for every answer, including the ones you got right. Every option has its own feedback and every question links to the Microsoft Learn page behind it.
In Practice: Everyday Hybrid Admin Scenarios
100 questions · 165 minutes · pass mark 80%
Test 2 moves from definitions to short, realistic scenarios. A branch office loses its WAN link, a gMSA needs to run on three servers, a Hyper-V Replica test has to leave production untouched, a file share needs SMB encryption, a DNS zone has to answer differently for internal and external clients. Each question asks you to pick between neighbouring features that are easy to confuse, which is where most AZ-802 candidates lose points. All seven exam domains are covered in the same proportions as the official skills outline. You get 100 questions in 165 minutes, including 14 "choose two" questions, and the pass mark is 80%. Review your score per domain afterwards and revisit the areas where you dropped below the line before moving on to test 3.
Trade-offs: When Two Answers Look Right
100 questions · 170 minutes · pass mark 80%
In test 3 at least two answers look defensible, and one constraint in the question decides: no downtime, no internet access, least privilege, a forest boundary, a legacy client, lowest cost. This is how the real AZ-802 exam separates candidates who recognise a feature from those who know when to use it. Expect longer stems than in tests 1 and 2: AD DS recovery choices, RODC credential caching, Azure Arc versus native Azure options, Hyper-V high availability, DHCP failover modes, SMB over QUIC, Credential Guard limitations and troubleshooting paths. You get 100 questions in 170 minutes, including 14 "choose two" questions, and the pass mark is 80%. When you miss a question, read why the tempting option fails; that distinction is usually the lesson.
Under the Hood: Cmdlets, Settings and Limits
100 questions · 135 minutes · pass mark 80%
Test 4 goes into the details an administrator types and configures: PowerShell cmdlets and parameters, default values, service limits, required permissions and the order of steps. Think Install-ADDSDomainController options, staged RODC accounts, JEA role capability files, azcmagent commands, Hyper-V Replica and VHD cmdlets, DNSSEC and DNS policy cmdlets, DHCP failover settings, Azure File Sync deployment order, Storage Replica prerequisites, Windows LAPS setup and event log tools. The questions are shorter than in test 3, but the answer options are close to each other, so you need exact knowledge rather than a general idea. You get 100 questions in 135 minutes, including 16 "choose two" questions, and the pass mark is 80%.
Exam Day: Full-Length Simulation
100 questions · 170 minutes · pass mark 85%
The final test is your readiness check. It has the longest scenarios in this practice set: an existing environment, several requirements and restrictions, often a troubleshooting chain, with domains mixed the way the real exam mixes them. It also leaves you the least thinking time per question of all five tests. Take it in one uninterrupted session, without notes, once you have worked through tests 1 to 4. You get 100 questions in 170 minutes, including 16 "choose two" questions. The pass mark is 85%, higher than in the other tests and well above the real exam's scaled 700, because a comfortable margin at home is a better predictor of a pass under exam conditions than a narrow one. If you fall short, go back to your weakest domain, reread the explanations and retake the test after a few days.

Who is this for
This practice set is for Windows Server administrators, system engineers and infrastructure specialists preparing for Exam AZ-802: Administering Windows Server, the exam for the Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administrator Associate certification. It also suits IT professionals moving from on-premises administration into hybrid management with Azure Arc, Azure Monitor and Azure Update Manager, help desk and support engineers stepping up to server administration, and consultants who need to prove their Windows Server skills. AZ-802 replaces the two-exam path of AZ-800 and AZ-801, which retired on September 30, 2026. If you studied for those exams, note that hybrid identity with Entra Connect, containers, failover clustering, Azure Backup and Site Recovery, and server migration are no longer part of the outline, while AD DS troubleshooting, Kerberos and secure channel issues get their own place. This practice set is a question bank that tests and explains; it does not replace a course or hands-on lab time.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with Windows Server helps: Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file shares and PowerShell. The exam itself assumes you administer these day to day.
- Basic familiarity with Azure (portal, virtual machines, storage accounts) is useful for the hybrid questions on Azure Arc, Azure Files and Azure Monitor.
- These are practice tests, not a video course. Use them alongside the free Microsoft Learn material and the AZ-802 study guide, not instead of them.
