AZ-104 Azure Administrator Practice Tests – 250 Questions
250 original questions on identity, governance, storage, compute and networking, each answer explained
Are you ready for the AZ-104, or do you just feel ready? Reading the Microsoft Learn paths and watching videos builds knowledge, but the exam asks you to apply it: pick the right role at the right scope, the right storage redundancy for a stated failure, the right network setting for a stated constraint, under time pressure. These practice tests show you exactly where you stand.
This practice set contains five practice exams with 250 original questions in total, written for the AZ-104 skills measured as of April 17, 2026. Every test covers all five skill areas in the official weighting: identities and governance, storage, compute, virtual networking, and monitoring and backup.
The AZ-104 has changed a lot since it replaced AZ-103 in 2020. The current outline tests encryption at host instead of Azure Disk Encryption, adds Azure Container Apps, the Azure Backup vault and soft delete for blobs and containers, and dropped AKS, custom roles and VM extensions. Basic public IPs and the Basic load balancer have been retired. Older question banks still drill that material, which prepares you for an exam that no longer exists.
The five tests build up step by step:
1. Groundwork: core concepts, one idea per question.
2. In Practice: short scenarios that separate features that are easy to confuse.
3. Trade-offs: two reasonable answers, one requirement decides.
4. Under the Hood: commands, syntax, limits and default values.
5. Exam Day: a full-length simulation with long, multi-requirement scenarios.
Every answer option has its own explanation, so you learn why the wrong answers are wrong, not only which one is right. Each question also ends with a summary and a link to the relevant Microsoft Learn page.
After each attempt, PrepKiwi shows your score per skill area, so you know what to review. Tests 1 to 4 require 80% to pass and the final simulation 85%, deliberately higher than the real exam.
What this practice set is not: it is not a video course and not a copy of real exam questions. It tests and explains; use it alongside the free Microsoft Learn material and hands-on practice in Azure.
Groundwork: Core Azure Administration Concepts
50 questions · 80 minutes · pass mark 80%
Start here, and take this test cold as your baseline. Groundwork covers the core ideas behind every AZ-104 skill area: Microsoft Entra users and groups, Azure RBAC scopes, locks, tags and Azure Policy; storage redundancy, access tiers and SAS; ARM templates, availability sets, scale sets, containers and App Service; subnets, peering, NSGs, Bastion, DNS and load balancing; and monitoring, alerts, backup and Site Recovery. Questions are short and test one concept each. You have 80 minutes for 50 questions, six of them multi-select. The pass mark is 80%, set higher than the real exam on purpose: practising at home is easier than sitting in a test centre, so a comfortable margin here is a better signal of readiness. Every answer option has its own explanation, plus an overall explanation with a link to Microsoft Learn.
In Practice: Everyday Admin Scenarios
50 questions · 80 minutes · pass mark 80%
In Practice moves from definitions to short, realistic scenarios. Each question describes a small admin task and asks what you would actually configure: which role, which policy effect, which storage feature, which deployment option, which network setting. The focus is on neighbours that are easy to mix up, such as service endpoints and private endpoints, account SAS and user delegation SAS, versioning and share snapshots, User Access Administrator and Owner, or the Recovery Services vault and the Backup vault. You have 80 minutes for 50 questions, seven of them multi-select, and you pass at 80%. Review the per-option explanations after each attempt, including for questions you got right.
Trade-offs: When Two Answers Look Right
50 questions · 80 minutes · pass mark 80%
Trade-offs is where the AZ-104 gets harder. In most questions two answers are both reasonable, and one stated requirement decides: read access during a regional outage, on-premises access over private connectivity, shared key access disabled, least privilege, a retention period, a tier limit, a zone failure. The skill you train here is spotting that deciding constraint before you look at the options. Stems are longer and every answer option is a real Azure feature that is right somewhere else. You have 80 minutes for 50 questions, seven of them multi-select, and you pass at 80%. When you miss one, the explanation shows which constraint ruled your choice out.
Under the Hood: Commands, Limits and Settings
50 questions · 70 minutes · pass mark 80%
Under the Hood tests the details an administrator needs at the keyboard: Azure CLI and PowerShell commands, Bicep and ARM syntax, portal steps in the right order, and the limits and default values that shape a design. Think key rotation order, stored access policy limits, encryption at host prerequisites, Bastion subnet size, NSG priorities, diagnostic setting limits and backup soft delete. Because the exam is open book but the clock keeps running, knowing these by heart saves real time. You have 70 minutes for 50 questions, eight of them multi-select, and you pass at 80%. Every value in this test is backed by the linked Microsoft Learn page.
Exam Day: Full-Length Simulation
50 questions · 80 minutes · pass mark 85%
Exam Day is a full-length simulation. Save it until tests 1 to 4 are consistently above 80%, then take it in one sitting without notes. The questions are long, company-style scenarios with several requirements at once, and skill areas are mixed the way the real exam mixes them. You have 80 minutes for 50 questions, eight of them multi-select. That is tighter per question than the real exam, which gives 100 minutes and can include case studies and interactive items. The pass mark is 85%, deliberately above the real exam: if you can clear this bar under time pressure, you are ready to book. If you fall short, go back to your weakest domain in the results report and read the explanations before trying again.
What you will practice
- Test yourself on all five AZ-104 skill areas with 250 original questions mapped to the skills measured as of April 17, 2026
- Manage Entra users and groups, Azure RBAC, Azure Policy, locks, tags, management groups and cost controls with confidence
- Choose the right storage redundancy, access tier, SAS type, network rule and data protection feature for each scenario
- Deploy and manage VMs, scale sets, containers and App Service, and configure VNets, NSGs, Bastion, DNS and load balancers
- Learn from every mistake: each answer option has its own explanation, plus a summary with a link to Microsoft Learn
- Build up from core concepts to trade-offs and exact commands, ending with a timed full-length exam simulation

Who is this for
This practice set is for anyone preparing for the AZ-104 Microsoft Azure Administrator exam: system and network administrators moving from on-premises to Azure, cloud and DevOps engineers who want the Azure Administrator Associate certification, support engineers and consultants who already work in the Azure portal, and students or career changers who have finished the Microsoft Learn paths and want to know whether they are ready. If you studied with older material, note that the AZ-104 replaced AZ-103 in 2020 and has been revised several times since. The current version (skills measured as of April 17, 2026) tests encryption at host instead of Azure Disk Encryption, includes Azure Container Apps, the Azure Backup vault and soft delete for blobs and containers, and no longer covers AKS, custom roles or VM extensions. These tests follow the current outline. This is a question bank with detailed explanations. It checks and deepens what you know; it does not replace a full course or hands-on practice.
Requirements
- Basic familiarity with Azure concepts such as subscriptions, resource groups and virtual machines. You do not need to be an administrator yet.
- The exam expects working knowledge of networking, virtualization, PowerShell, Azure CLI, the Azure portal and ARM templates or Bicep. Hands-on practice in a free or trial Azure subscription helps a lot.
- These are practice tests, not a course. Use them alongside the free Microsoft Learn AZ-104 learning paths, not instead of them.
