The short version
The Databricks Data Analyst Associate credential is valid for two years. To renew it, you take the full exam that is live at that time; there is no shorter renewal path published for this credential. If you fail, you can register again after 14 days, with no stated limit on attempts. This page was checked against Databricks’ pages on October 22, 2026.
Does the credential expire?
Yes. Databricks lists a validity period of two years, counted from the date the credential is awarded. The digital badge expires on the same schedule. Databricks says it notifies you in advance, so you have time to prepare if you want to recertify.
Expiry matters in two practical ways. First, an expired credential no longer shows as valid on your badge. Second, anything you list on a resume should carry the award date, so a reader can see how current it is.
How renewal works
Databricks states it plainly: to recertify, you take the current live exam, in full. That has three consequences.
- It is the same kind of attempt as the first one. You register, pay the exam fee, and sit the proctored exam again. We do not print fees here, so check the vendor page for the current amount.
- The exam may have changed. Databricks says there will be only one version of each exam going forward, and the exam guide is the authority on what a live exam contains. If the guide has been updated since your first attempt, you study the new one, not the old one.
- Renewal is not a separate, cheaper exam for this credential. The Databricks certification page lists a renewal exam only for the Data Engineer Associate credential. For the Data Analyst Associate, Databricks publishes no renewal-specific exam, so treat renewal as a fresh attempt at the live exam.
What happens if you let it lapse?
Databricks does not describe a grace period or a special lapsed-credential process on the pages we checked. What it does say is that recertifying means taking the current live exam. The safe reading is that a lapsed credential is renewed the same way: by passing the exam again. If this matters for a job application or a contract, ask Databricks support rather than assuming.
Retake rules
The rules below come from the Databricks certification FAQ.
| Question | What Databricks publishes |
|---|---|
| Waiting period after an attempt | 14 days |
| Limit on attempts | None stated; you can retake as many times as you like |
| Cost of a retake | The same as the original exam |
| Free retakes or retake vouchers | Not offered |
| Passing score | Not published; set by statistical analysis and can change |
The 14-day wait applies between every attempt, not only after the first one. Because each attempt is paid, a retake plan should be a study plan first. Our exam format page covers rescheduling windows and how results arrive.
Using the 14 days
Your score report will not list every question you missed. Instead of rereading everything, go back to the sections that felt shaky and rebuild them with hands-on work. The domains explained page lists a practice task for each of the nine sections. Two weeks is enough to fix one or two weak sections, which is usually what a near miss comes down to.
What if the exam changes while you hold the credential?
Databricks says the exam guide defines what is on the live exam, and that passing scores can change when an exam is updated. The FAQ does not say what happens to your existing credential when the exam is updated. It stays valid for its two years as far as the published rules go. The only thing that changes is what you face at renewal.
Databricks has retired exams before, and its FAQ names two as examples that were deprecated on August 22, 2022 because their content was outdated; it adds that Professional Data Scientist certifications issued earlier remain valid for the standard period. That is the one published precedent, and it points the same way: earned credentials keep their validity period.
A timeline example
This is an illustration, not a promise.
- You pass on March 3, 2027. The credential and badge are valid for two years.
- In early 2029 you get a reminder from Databricks that expiry is coming.
- You check the exam guide that is current at that time. If it changed, you update your study notes.
- You book the exam well before March 3, 2029, leaving room for a 14-day retake wait if the first attempt fails.
- You pass the live exam and the two-year clock restarts from the new award date.
Booking at least six weeks ahead of expiry gives you one full retake cycle with time to spare.

Next step
Planning for renewal starts with knowing the current outline. Review the exam overview for the nine sections, then the study plan if you need a schedule. When you want a readiness check before a paid attempt, try our Databricks Data Analyst Associate practice tests. The Databricks FAQ is the final authority on these rules.
