About these questions
These five questions are original. We wrote them in the style of the exam topics, one for each of five of the six domains: Software Development and Design, APIs, Cisco Platforms, Infrastructure and Automation, and Network Fundamentals. They are not questions from the real exam, and the real exam will word things differently. Application Deployment and Security is covered in our full practice sets.
How to use these
Try each question without notes and choose an answer before you open the explanation. Read the explanation even if you were right, because the reason the closest wrong option fails is where you learn the most. Note any domain where you slipped and revisit it on the domains explained page.
Question 1 (Software Development and Design)
A teammate tells you she pushed bug fixes to the shared `origin/develop` branch. Before you change anything, you want to download her commits and look at them with `git log origin/develop`, while your own checked-out branch stays exactly as it is. Which command does this?
- A. `git pull origin develop`
- B. `git push origin develop`
- C. `git fetch origin`
- D. `git merge origin/develop`
Show the answer and explanation
Correct answer: C. `git fetch` downloads new commits and updates remote-tracking branches such as `origin/develop`, but it does not touch the branch you have checked out. You can then inspect the commits and integrate them later. `git pull` is the closest wrong option because it runs a fetch and then merges or rebases into your current branch, so your branch would change. `git merge origin/develop` only integrates commits you already have locally, and `git push` sends your commits in the opposite direction.
Question 2 (Understanding and Using APIs)
A script uses an account that has the viewer role in an inventory application. It sends `DELETE /api/v2/devices/17` with a valid token. The server accepts the token, knows who the caller is, and refuses to delete the device because viewers may not delete anything. Which HTTP status code should the script expect?
- A. 401 Unauthorized
- B. 403 Forbidden
- C. 404 Not Found
- D. 405 Method Not Allowed
Show the answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. 403 means the server understood the request and knows the caller, but the caller lacks permission. The closest wrong option is 401, which signals missing or invalid credentials. Here the token was fine, so authentication succeeded. 404 would mean the device does not exist. 405 would mean the endpoint does not support DELETE for anyone, whereas in this scenario other roles could probably use it.
Question 3 (Cisco Platforms and Development)
An engineer writes a Python script to print the serial number of every device in a Catalyst Center inventory. She has already obtained a token. Which request and which part of the JSON reply should the script use?
- A. `GET /dna/intent/api/v1/network-device`, looping over the `response` list
- B. `GET /dna/intent/api/v1/network-device`, looping over the `version` value
- C. `POST /dna/system/api/v1/auth/token`, looping over the `response` list
- D. `GET /dna/intent/api/v1/network-device`, looping over a top-level `devices` list
Show the answer and explanation
Correct answer: A. The intent API endpoint for the device list returns a JSON object whose `response` key holds one object per device, with fields such as the hostname and serial number. The script loops over that list. The closest wrong option is D, which has the right endpoint but invents a `devices` key. Option B loops over the API version string, and option C is the call used to obtain a token, not to list devices.
Question 4 (Infrastructure and Automation)
A code review shows this hunk from a unified diff of a router configuration file:
“` @@ -4,4 +4,4 @@ hostname edge1 ntp source Loopback1 -ntp server 10.0.0.1 +ntp server 10.0.0.9 logging host 10.9.9.9 “`
Which change does it describe?
- A. A second NTP server was added and the first one was kept
- B. The NTP server address was changed from 10.0.0.1 to 10.0.0.9
- C. The NTP source interface was changed to Loopback1
- D. The logging host was removed
Show the answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. In a unified diff, a line starting with a minus sign was removed and a line starting with a plus sign was added, so one NTP server line replaces another. Lines that start with a space are context and did not change. Option A is the closest wrong answer, but the old server line is marked as removed, so it is gone. The NTP source and logging lines are context lines, and the header `-4,4 +4,4` shows the hunk has four lines in both versions.
Question 5 (Network Fundamentals)
A network team wants its monitoring system to learn immediately when a router loses a WAN link, instead of waiting for the next five-minute poll. Which two SNMP messages can the router send on its own to report this? Choose two.
- A. Trap
- B. GetRequest
- C. SetRequest
- D. Inform
- E. GetNextRequest
Show the answer and explanation
Correct answers: A and D. A trap is an unsolicited notification from an agent to the manager. An inform is also unsolicited, but the receiver acknowledges it, which makes delivery more reliable. The closest wrong options are the request messages, such as GetRequest and GetNextRequest, because they sound like they fetch the link state. They are sent by the manager to poll the router, so they cannot report an event by themselves. SetRequest is also sent by the manager, to change a value.
